Thousands of current and former supported employees with intellectual disability may receive a one-off payment through the Australian Government’s BSWAT Payment Scheme. Registrations for the scheme closed on 30 April 2017. Almost 8000 applications for payment have been made. Most people who are registered for the scheme are current supported employees of Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs). Advocates are in a great position to help people complete the payment application form (if they have not yet done so), and work out if they should accept or decline the payment offer.
