Right now, there’s an important opportunity for the voices of independent advocates to be heard when it comes to improving systems for people with disability. The Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) is conducting an audit of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, which will be open for contributions until 27 October 2024.
This audit examines how effectively the NDIS Commission monitors and regulates the safety and quality of NDIS supports. It is not about changing policies or laws but about evaluating whether the NDIS Commission is doing its job efficiently and effectively. Feedback and real-world examples from your advocacy work can directly inform this audit, ensuring that the experiences and challenges you’ve witnessed are taken into account.
How is DANA supporting contributions?
DANA has developed a contribution template to facilitate member organisations’ contributions to the audit. This template is designed to help advocates submit examples and case studies quickly and easily, capturing the on-the-ground realities of how the NDIS Commission has been functioning this year.
Why contribute?
We’ve heard from advocates across the sector that the NDIS Commission’s processes have often been slow, ineffective, and lack timely action. Key areas such as data gathering, information sharing, and risk-responsive monitoring need urgent improvement. By sharing your experiences, you can help make sure the ANAO’s audit reflects these issues and prompts the necessary improvements.
Using the contribution template
Our template is designed to make contributing to the audit as straightforward as possible. In just 15 minutes to an hour, depending on the number or detail of your examples, you can document your recent interactions with the NDIS Commission and upload your contribution to the ANAO website.
Here’s how to get started:
- Download the contribution template here.
- Customise it with your organisation’s name and relevant details.
- Replace the highlighted text with your examples or case studies, and remove sections where you have nothing to add.
- Save the document in PDF, DOC, or DOCX format.
- Upload the document through the ANAO audit page here.
Once you’ve submitted your contribution, please email a copy to Siobhan Clair at siobhan.clair@dana.org.au so we can track the valuable input from across the sector.
