Future of Advocacy Project

Overview of the project

The Federal and State and Territory governments are working together on progressing the Disability Advocacy Work Plan under the National Disability Advocacy Framework 2023-2025. Senior officials and leaders will likely to be making decisions about funding, sector structure and development and priorities for focus in the next Framework and Work Plan.

Through this ‘Future of Advocacy’ project, DANA wants to present our members’ expertise and views about what the sector’s future should look like and develop a clear vision and recommendations for government that our sector can unite behind – supported by a strategy to influence funding and policy decisions for the sector from July 2025 and beyond.

We want to hear your priorities for the future and your concrete suggestions on how to shape the future of the disability advocacy sector. This is a critical opportunity to ensure that our collective voices are heard and that the advocacy sector is strengthened for the long term.

Please reach out to the team at comms@dana.org.au if you have any questions.

What we know

Additional funding, consistent frameworks, and increased opportunities to collaborate on systemic issues, are just some of the key issues we know so far.

Resoundingly, we have heard from DANA members over many years that adequate, secure funding is essential to develop and strengthen the sector so that it can meet the needs of people with disability. Significant government investment is vital to the achievement of all elements of the National Disability Advocacy Framework objectives and the Disability Advocacy Work Plan.
