A response to public consultation to help inform a possible commissioning approach for part of the SIL market.

DANA welcomes the recent policy change requiring mandatory registration of SIL providers with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.

This is a reform DANA has long called for. Registration is an important piece of the puzzle, but it is not sufficient on its own. Any new approach to SIL must be built around independent oversight, accessible avenues for raising concerns, and providers who can demonstrably show they respect participant rights, dignity and decision-making. Safeguards must be enforceable, not policy statements alone.
